Since I will be your tour guide on some occasions and will accompany you during the program, I would like to introduce myself, so you can get to know me before the program actually starts.
I grew up in rural western Germany and moved to Berlin in 2001, where I enrolled at Humboldt University to study British and American Studies and History. I have recently finished my studies, and will be starting teaching English and History as a high school teacher in August or November.
During my studies, I have specialized in 19th century American literature and history, Holocaust Studies, Stalinism, theoretical foundations of history, art, and literature.
In my spare time, I have worked for the gallery 'lifebomb', an international art gallery in Wedding, a multicultural district riddled with high unemployment, and social tensions. The gallery focused on German and international artists residing in the area, but also did exchange exhibitions with similar projects in New York and Paris. Unfortunately, it is closed by now; things move quickly in Berlin, especially in its vibrant art scene.
Together with Manuela, I was a teaching assistant for UW's Berlin Summer Schools in 2008 and 2009. I am looking forward to meeting you all in Berlin and showing you around in 'my city'. If you have any questions on German or Berlin history or my areas of expertise, just contact me.
